As part of Saxon Air’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, we are proud to have released our new EV chargers on site. This week marks an exciting milestone in our sustainability journey and route to Net Zero by upgrading our charging facilities.
This has been a project on the books for the best part of two years, with the initial aim to revamp our original chargers with something more fit for purpose, something more “Electriflying”.
The aim of our project was not just to upgrade our original chargers, but to help build the infrastructure to help integrate the power generated from our on-site solar panels to drive our team’s commutes.
Alongside this, the project was designed with growth in mind – ensuring the groundwork is in place to expand charging capacity as demand continues to increase.
Why was this project important?
Electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly common part of daily life, both for our team and for those visiting our site. By providing accessible EV charging we are supporting the transition to lower-emission transport and reinforcing our commitment to operating a modern, forward-thinking facility that meets the needs of our teams.
The chargers that we had in place were basic and did not allow us to record and control the solar energy used to provide charging. Therefore, by upgrading our chargers to a network that allowed us to access an integrated software to track this data was essential.
This project was made possible through strong collaboration across teams and with trusted partners. Working alongside Mr Charger Ltd, we delivered the installation of our branded Rolec Quantum EV chargers, complete with a branded tap-and-pay terminal.
Becky from Rolec was our main point of contact at Rolec and helped answer a long line of questions we had to make sure we were going with the right company. The introduction to the product and through seeing examples at other venues we knew the Rolec Quantum chargers were the best fit for our needs. Becky pointed us into the direction of Alan from Mr Charger, a local business who specialise in the installation and groundworks for the chargers. Alan made numerous visits to our site to go through every step of the project to help make sure the installation followed various processes and regulations.
Internally, the time and commitment across departments played a key role in ensuring the project was delivered smoothly and efficiently, again highlighting the importance of Sustainability projects at Saxon Air.
What Impact does this project provide?
As previously mentioned, we want to provide a sustainable facility that is suitable to meet the needs of our team for now and into the future. Alongside the installation of four charging points, we have completed the groundworks for up to ten charging points on site.
Once our Rolec Quantum chargers were ordered, we were able to create custom branding for them. This allowed us to make our charging points unique with the Saxon Air and Electriflying logo, finished with our trio of brand colours enhancing a visual presence on site.
For our team, clients, and on-site tenants. The chargers offer the convenience of workplace charging, supporting those who have already made the switch to electric vehicles and encouraging others who may be considering it. For clients visiting our facility, EV charging provides added flexibility and reassurance that sustainability is embedded into the way we operate.
Our project is helping make sustainable choices more accessible, practical, and providing a seamless transition to using clean renewable energy for travel.
How does this project support our sustainability initiatives?
Our EV charger project worked alongside a project to install a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which will allow us to store solar energy we have generated on site for use across the facility. By combining our BESS and EV chargers, we are further able to offer clean energy for charging vehicles on site and maximise the value of the renewable energy produced at our facility.
As we move closer to 2030 and our ambitions of being Net Zero, investing in innovation projects will be an essential part of our journey. In 2025, we saw more staff drive EV’s and we hope to see further growth in 2026 and beyond. We recognised that to support our staff in their ambitions in driving electric, we need to provide an infrastructure of on-site charging that can allow for multiple vehicles charging at once.
Following the completion of the first four charging points and the groundworks already being completed to support an increase of charging facilities. We are setting our sights on the installation of a further six chargers to be a main project in 2026, which will further strengthen the partnerships built with Rolec and Mr Charger.
Closing thoughts
The upgrade in our EV charging facilities has been a fantastic project for Saxon Air showcasing the very best from our team.
We have seen positive cross department collaboration, bringing members of our sustainability, facilities and finance teams together to oversee every step of this project. The work from our facilities team in project managing every visit by Mr Charger and overseeing the plans for the ground works has ensured that the installation was seamless. Our Finance team have played a very important part in us firstly integrating this project into our business plans, then working through the steps of applying for government grant funding and now overseeing the workings of the backend systems.
Outside of Saxon Air, we have been introduced to two fantastic companies in Rolec and Mr Charger, strengthening the power of partnerships they will be our go to partners for future projects for our EV chargers.
The Rolec Quantum chargers are a perfect upgrade for our facility along with the integration of the tap & pay terminal we can now offer public charging for visitors and clients. As our chargers will be on display at our facilities, by having the option to personally brand our chargers we have been able to create a visually pleasing charging set up that promotes our “Electriflying” journey.
These steps have been essential for Saxon Air’s sustainability journey by providing a solution for staff EV charging, integrating clean energy to power our chargers, and further showcasing our commitment to responsible and sustainable travel.
