Saxon Air proudly hosted aviation enthusiast and Pride of Britain winner, Jacob Newson, at their Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) Open Day on 22nd March, where he experienced an unforgettable flight in one of their electric aircraft. This special flight was a gesture of recognition for Jacob’s exceptional fundraising efforts for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF), having raised an estimated £55,000 to date. Saxon Air also aimed to offer future pilots like Jacob a glimpse into the future of aviation with an exhilarating flight experience using this cutting-edge technology.
Jacob, known as ‘Jacob the Pilot,’ has been dedicated to supporting the RAF Family since 2019. His next ambitious challenge is a 200km cycle ride and five-day wild camp across Germany in August 2025, visiting the five dams involved in the historic Dambusters Raid by 617 Squadron in 1943.
Jacob’s remarkable journey has earned him recognition from the RAF, including a salute from the Red Arrows at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in 2019, and the honour of receiving his Pride of Britain award envelope from a Red Arrows pilot at RAF Waddington. He has also flown with the RAF in a Voyager aircraft at RAF Brize Norton and remains committed to supporting the RAF Family, with aspirations to one day be part of it himself.
Flying in the Pipistrel Velis Electro, Jacob had a Go-Pro placed in the aircraft to live document his electric flight. Reflecting on his experience flying the aircraft, Jacob said, “Overall I would give the experience 11 stars out of 10! This flight was calm and quiet. I think the future of electric aircraft is going to be good!”
