New Aircraft Arrival Boosts Saxon Air Flight Training School

2 September 2025

Saxon Air is pleased to announce the arrival of its latest aircraft addition, G-CLWO, a second Pipistrel Virus SW121A Explorer, which joins the growing training fleet at Norwich Airport.

Saxon Air Flight Training Centre offers a modern and flexible pathway for aspiring pilots. With access to a diverse fleet and highly experienced instructors, the school delivers training from Private Pilot Licences (PPL) through to advanced ratings and structured hour-building programmes. Saxon Air’s learner-centred approach ensures tailored support for every student, whether they are training for recreational flying or preparing for a professional aviation career. This low emission flight training centre is also dedicated to promoting sustainability and accessibility within aviation, embedding modern, electric and fuel-efficient aircraft at the heart of its operations.

The expansion marks a significant step in Saxon Air’s strategy to meet rising demand for high-quality, cost-effective, and sustainable pilot training. Since its introduction, the first Pipistrel 121 Explorer has proven hugely popular with both students and instructors, praised for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and advanced avionics.

“We’ve seen a real surge in training demand, and the Pipistrel Explorer has consistently delivered outstanding results for our students,” said Neil Turnbull Head of Flight Training. “Adding a second aircraft not only gives us capacity but also continuity, ensuring our students benefit from consistent availability and modern technology throughout their training journey.”

Like its sister aircraft, G-CLWO is equipped with a glass cockpit, state-of-the-art avionics, and class-leading fuel efficiency. The matched pair ensures standardisation across training programmes, simplifies maintenance scheduling, and provides seamless instructor and student transition. This consistency is particularly valuable for Private Pilot Licence (PPL) students, modular training pathways, and hour-building phases.

Saxon Air’s initial Pipistrel Explorer, G-OSAX, has proven extremely popular with student and instructors alike, offering excellent reliability, fuel efficiency and low operating costs. With rising enrolments and growing interest in modular and sustainable training pathways, this second aircraft reinforces our ability of deliver consistent and high frequency training that is aligned to Saxon Air’s low emission ethos.

The benefits to Saxon Air’s Flight Training School are immediate and wide-ranging:

  • Increased availability for students, reducing scheduling bottlenecks.
  • Greater flexibility for instructors and resilience during maintenance.
  • Capacity for future growth, including scholarships and companion courses.
  • Alignment with sustainability goals, with the Pipistrel 121 being among the most fuel-efficient training aircraft in its class.

This addition underlines Saxon Air’s commitment to a learner-focused, forward-thinking, and environmentally responsible training environment, providing students with access to one of the most modern flight training fleets in the region.
