Saxon Air is proud to announce that we have been awarded Gold in the Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund, a prestigious initiative by the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) aimed at breaking down barriers and inspiring young people to pursue careers in aviation.
The latest round of Reach for the Sky funding sees £810,000 awarded to 16 organisations across the UK, with Saxon Air being recognised for its outstanding commitment to aviation education and outreach. This brings the total funding awarded through the scheme to £2.3 million, benefiting 100,000 people across the country.
As part of our mission to foster diversity and inclusion in the industry, Saxon Air’s INSPIRE Outreach Programme has been instrumental in engaging young people from all backgrounds. The programme is designed to introduce aviation to students as young as five years old through tailored activities that align with the curriculum.
Providing Opportunities Where They Are Needed Most
We have already started to run this programme in local schools. West Earlham Infant School was specifically chosen for the launch of ‘INSPIRE: Alpha’ as it is recognised as a school serving a highly deprived area. Many of its pupils may not typically have access to industry engagement opportunities like this, and Saxon Air was determined to change that. By bringing the aviation industry directly to these students, the company hopes to demonstrate that no ambition is out of reach, regardless of background. This initiative reinforces Saxon Air’s commitment to removing barriers and creating real, lasting opportunities for young people who may not have previously considered a future in aviation.
Creating a Meaningful Difference:
The INSPIRE: Alpha initiative is already making a meaningful impact. During a recent visit to West Earlham Infant School, children explored aviation concepts through hands-on, interactive experiences—many for the first time. Teachers noted a surge in student enthusiasm, with many expressing a newfound interest in the aviation industry. With this funding, we can expand our reach, providing even more schools with the opportunity to participate and inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Hannah Colledge, HR and Wellbeing Coordinator at SaxonAir, said:
“Our INSPIRE Outreach Programme is designed to spark a passion for aviation, offering tailored activities that align with different age groups and connect appropriately to the curriculum. With support from the Reach for the Sky funding, we can extend our reach, ensuring that young people from all backgrounds have the chance to experience aviation firsthand.”
The Funding Impact:
At Saxon Air, we believe in a future where aviation is accessible to all, and we remain committed to providing opportunities that nurture talent, innovation, and passion for the industry. This funding will allow Saxon Air to build on this success, bringing the programme to a broader range of schools and ensuring more young learners have access to these valuable experiences.
Calling Schools to Take Part
Saxon Air is inviting schools to participate in the INSPIRE: Alpha initiative. Schools interested in bringing this dynamic programme to their students are encouraged to reach out and register their interest.
